Solar and Ultraviolet Radiation

چکیده
Terrestrial life is dependent on radiant energy from the sun. Solar radiation is largely optical radiation [radiant energy within a broad region of the electromagnetic spectrum that includes ultraviolet (UV), visible (light) and infrared radiation], although both shorter wavelength (ionizing) and longer wavelength (microwaves and radiofrequency) radiation is present. The wavelength of UV radiation (UVR) lies in the range of 100–400 nm, and is further subdivided into UVA (315–400 nm), UVB (280–315 nm), and UVC (100–280 nm). The UV component of terrestrial radiation from the midday sun comprises about 95% UVA and 5% UVB; UVC and most of UVB are removed from extraterrestrial radiation by stratospheric ozone. Approximately 5% of solar terrestrial radiation is UVR, and solar radiation is the major source of human exposure to UVR. Before the beginning of last century, the sun was essentially the only source of UVR, but with the advent of artificial sources the opportunity for additional exposure has increased. 1.1 Nomenclature and units

The measurement of solar ultraviolet radiation in Kermanshah city over a one-year period from 2015 to 2016
ABSTRACT Background: Ultraviolet radiation is present in sunlight. If ultraviolet radiation exceeds the limit, it can cause detrimental effects on human health such as skin cancer and cataract. Materials and Methods: In this descriptive cross-sectional study, the level of solar ultraviolet radiation type A (UVA) were measured using UV LOG HAND HELD in Kermanshah city. The intensity of ultravio...

Background: Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is divided into three regions: UVA, UVB, and UVC. Both the quality and quantity of solar UV radiation vary with various factors including the elevation of the sun above the horizon, as well as absorption and scattering of UV photons by molecules in the atmosphere, notably ozone and clouds. It is clear that whereas a moderate amount of UV exposure ...
متن کاملPrediction of solar ultraviolet intensity by using Fuzzy Logic in the north-west of Iran
Introduction: Solar energy is one of the free sources, clean and environmentally friendly energy. Sun is the most important source of natural ultraviolet radiation that has a major role in the life of living beings. Industrial and medical applications of ultraviolet radiation have been clearly proven, like the production of vitamin D or treatment of many diseases, and also har...
متن کاملEvaluation of solar ultraviolet radiation in Zanjan city using the ultraviolet index
Background and Objective: Monitoring the amount of ultraviolet radiation from sunlight can provide a basis for assessing people's exposure, raise public awareness and warn people against this radiation. Measuring the sun's ultraviolet index over a working period is an accurate choice to achieve this goal. Materials and Methods: In this study, the amount of solar UV index in one of the outdoor ...
متن کاملSolar ultraviolet radiation on the ground level of Isfahan
Introduction: Ultraviolet (UV) radiation affects human organs such as skin, eyes and immune system, as well as animals and plants. The main natural source of UV radiation is the Sun. To study the effects of solar UV radiation there is a need to quantify variations of solar energy received on the earth surface at different intervals. Materials and Methods: To measure UV radiation a broadband fib...

Introduction: Solar radiation has a major role in design, utilization, development, and planning of solar energy. The most important source of natural ultraviolet radiation is the sun, which has an important role in many biologic processes. Some of these processes are useful, like the production of vitamin D in the body, or curing rickets, and some of them are not, such as ski...
